The first ghent session began when Ross Bencina, the friendly visitor from Australia and coder behind AudioMulch visited Ghent. He had played live sets all over the world and I suggested to him we could organise a small one right in our living-room. Ross gladly agreed and a few phonecalls later, we had a tiny audience, mostly fellow audio-freaks.

Ross mostly played abstract granulated audio, ambient if you like. His style is very 'zen', much like his superb persona. Ranging from soundscapes to soft rhythmical drones, the complete set took over an hour and a half sending most of us off to a dreamlike state.

As you can see in the pictures below, we could all clearly see what Ross was doing on the PC (he uses Audiomulch, obviously), which triggered my craving for more. I'm an audio coder myself (smartelectronix), so I like to know how people use audio programs to create their music. At most of the electronic (live) performances I've seen in my life I didn't even know if it actually was live or just a DAT playing.

Below you can check out some pictures and even hear a few fragments from Ross' set...
