Lassi Nikko (Brothomstates) grew up spending most of the eighties experimenting with his dad's cassetterecorders and home organs. Later on, when audio technology was made freely available, he made his first steps into digital music using an Atari-computer. After achieving almost legendary status in the demoscenes of Finland and Russia with his unique brand of organic electronica, the now 23-year old Lassi signed to Warp Records, resulting in one EP (Qtio) and one album (Claro). Despite his fascination for computer-generated sounds, modular synthesisers and complex rhythmics, he still prefers to see music as a channel to release feelings, moods and atmospheres. "Music is nothing without emotional content, all my tracks mean something to me. Usually they bring up memories I had at the time I was making them which hopefully people will hear.".

Prolific would be one way to describe Andreas Tilliander's (aka Mokira, aka Rechord, aka Lowfour) work. Extremely talented would be another. His latest album, Elit (for which he received a Swedish Grammy Award nomination) puts the finger on the spot: it shows his proficiency as a producer. His sound combines minimal rhythmics flavoured with elements of hiphop, r 'n b and dub, a truly unique style that shows the future of evolotion of clicks and cuts. It's like nothing you ever heard but yet so familiar, Andreas Tilliander is destined to open the minds of many.

Yasume, a merge of the talents of John Twells (Xela) and Gabriel Morley (Logreybeam). They stepped into the spotlight when they were asked to do a remix of John's good friend Metamatics for the Hydrogen Jukebox label. The track 'Dentosen' was a unique combination between the choppy digital crunch of the Miami based Schematic label and the dreamlike melodic qualities of Angelo Badalamenti. September 2003 brings us their first full album entitled 'Where were from the birds sing a pretty song'. The title comes from a dream sequence in David Lynch's tv series 'Twin Peaks' and that really sets the scene for the style that defines the music of Yasume. Those who have seen them perform already will vouch for it, a sound which is hard to place and even harder to forget.

Jurgen De Blonde, the man behind Köhn (Flemish dialect for 'rabbit'), is establishing himself as one of the main players of the European electronica-scene. Versatility is his biggest strength: he makes seducing popsongs with the Portables and under his own name he's responsible for twinkling electro-pop tunes. As Köhn he makes even unique as fantastic electronics. A sumptuous palette of tones and melodies are fused into his own unique sound, sometimes subtle and playful. sometimes with the intensity of a steamroller.

Post-Human are: Mecanoiz, the vinyl crunching robot raised by fga.be and Praecox, a Ghent-based music loving humanoid, inspired by all kinds of sounds ranging from noise to pop. They collaborated in the past as party organisers under the name Post-Human Conspiracy. Now they rediscovered their musical vision and instead of throwing a party they make the beats themselves. Their inspiration comes from a vast array of sources, of which cyberpunk literature, gaming and big bad basses that tickle the chicks are the most significant. They like to depict themselves as the cyberpunk hustlers of electronic music. They make musical predictions without being responsible for the consequences. Make the music you love, have a laugh and don't give a shit about pigeon-holing or other wankery. Don't expect any wonderful new computer techniques, but don't expect any emotionless club tracks either. They're lowlifes with high tech machinery gone mental. Stop scratching your chin and start the dance. Actually you don't have achoice, we're pretty sure they'll make you ...

Eavesdropper started years ago somewhere in the leftfield drum'n'bass-breakbeatscene. Since then, he works for film, commercials, dance and theatre, writing scores, doing sound design and sound installations for exhibitions. Nowadays his music ranges from minimal tracks to heavy rhythmic pieces, all based on a microscopic view on sound, detailed layered structures and a deep interest in menacing atmospheres. His live sets swing from noisy anthems to clicking hopping.

Monica Herodotou hails originally from the beautiful island of Cyprus, and it is there where she developed a love of beautiful landscapes and stunning imagery. When she left school, she travelled to Germany, where her passion for the cinema grew into a dangerous obsession. On joining film school in Birmingham, England this desire was channelled into filmmaking and her keen eye developed further. Monica became involved with the Default crew in 2003, and has created visuals for events on numerous occasions, each one with a different angle and creative vision. Plans for the future include working on videos for City Centre Offices artist Xela and working with the Type record label on visual work.

Aeiou (pronounce: 'ay-oo') is the musical moniker of graphic designer Stef Lewandowski. Together with John Twells (Xela) he runs the new Type Records label and being responsible for the individual style of the site, he forms the backbone of the Type visual style. As part of Default Response, the Birmingham-based 'warm electronic music' collective he is known for his experimental dj-sets, straying into the forays of minimal electronic music, exploring the output of labels such as 12k, mille plateaux, raster noton and… of course Type. The result is an unexpected marriage between music made completely by computers and music made using live instruments, creating a sound that challenges our minds and is simultaneously pleasing to the ears, something too often forgotten in this area of music.
